PoC Radios with a SIM and Body-Worn Cameras for Field Teams
Instant push-to-talk communication over 4G/LTE mobile networks and Wi-Fi with the Hytera P50 radio and the Hytera SC580 body camera, plus an optional communication platform and dispatch console for group calls, location and emergency alerts. Available capabilities depend on the device model, platform, coverage and configuration.
What Is a PoC Radio?
PoC stands for Push-to-Talk over Cellular. A PoC radio works like a traditional two-way radio (walkie-talkie), but it uses a data SIM instead of direct radio frequencies, which lets an organization:
- Communicate wherever mobile network coverage is available, across sites and cities, without private repeater towers.
- Make group and one-to-one calls at the press of a button, just like a conventional radio.
- Avoid building a private radio network, because calls travel over the operator’s network.
- Follow locations, emergency alerts and talk groups from a dispatch console when a compatible platform is used.
- Combine voice communication and body-worn video in one setup for field teams.
Call quality depends on network coverage and the data plan; available capabilities depend on the device model, platform and configuration.

PoC Platform and Dispatch Console for Calls, Location and Emergencies
An optional add-on: an enterprise PoC communication platform with a dispatch console for your control room, running on PoC devices and compatible smartphones. Available features depend on the plan, configuration and device compatibility.
Group and private calls
Push-to-talk with a whole talk group or with one person, over 4G/LTE, 3G or Wi-Fi.
Control-room dispatch console
Follow talk groups and users in a web browser, place calls and manage groups from the control room.
Location on the map
See user locations via GPS, request a location on demand and use geofences when enabled.
SOS and lone-worker protection
Send an SOS alert with the user’s location to the control room, with lone-worker and man-down options on supported devices.
Messages, photos and video
Share text messages, photos, video clips and files, and live video where the device and plan support it.
User and device management
Add users, organize talk groups and manage some device settings remotely from the console, depending on the version.
The communication platform is an operational option separate from Afaq Platform for vehicle tracking; its compatibility with the selected device model is confirmed before supply.
Sectors That Benefit From PoC Radios and Body Cameras
For teams working across several or distant sites that need instant communication and field documentation.
Private security and guarding
Instant contact between guards and supervisors, emergency alerts and video documentation when needed.
Hotels and events
Coordinate front-desk, service and security teams on site and at event venues.
Construction and projects
Connect supervisors and technical crews across distant project sites.
Transportation and logistics
Connect drivers, warehouses and distribution teams, alongside vehicle-tracking solutions.

Number of users, work sites and available coverage, and whether video recording or a control room is needed.
Select devices and plans
Choose the device model and version, data SIMs and the right communication platform, and confirm compatibility.
Configure
Set up users, talk groups, dispatch permissions, alerts and device settings.
Train and set procedures
Train users and supervisors and set clear procedures for calls, recording and emergencies.
PoC Radio or Traditional Two-Way Radio?
Each technology has its place; the choice depends on where you work, coverage and the number of users.
PoC radio with a SIM
Range follows mobile network coverage and extends across cities and sites, with no private radio infrastructure, plus location, messaging and central management through the platform.
Traditional radio (analog or DMR)
Works directly between radios without a mobile network, but range depends on power and terrain, and business use may require a repeater and a frequency license.
Body camera with communication
When a team needs video documentation as well as voice, as in security and inspections. See also the VM780 body-worn camera solution.
Video Recording and Privacy
Body-worn video and audio recording should follow a clear organizational policy that defines:
- When recording is and is not allowed, and when people should be informed.
- Who may access and share recordings.
- How long recordings are kept and how they are deleted.
- How devices, passwords and platform permissions are protected.
This is general information, not legal advice; please review the applicable regulations in Saudi Arabia, including the Personal Data Protection Law.
Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers about PoC radios and body-worn cameras.
What is a PoC radio?
A push-to-talk device that works like a traditional two-way radio but uses a data SIM and 4G/LTE or Wi-Fi networks to carry voice instead of direct radio frequencies, so its range extends wherever network coverage is available.
What is the range of a PoC radio?
Range is not tied to transmit power as with a conventional radio but to the mobile or Wi-Fi coverage of each user; a team in Riyadh can talk to a team in Jeddah as long as both are connected. PoC does not work where there is no coverage.
Does a PoC radio need a frequency license?
A PoC radio works over a licensed mobile operator’s network, so it usually does not require building a private radio network or assigning frequencies to it. The device must still be approved for use in Saudi Arabia under the Communications, Space and Technology Commission’s requirements and used with properly registered SIMs; we recommend checking the requirements for your activity.
What are the Hytera P50's key features?
According to Hytera: PoC over LTE with Wi-Fi support, IP68 protection, a 4,000 mAh battery with up to 36 hours of operation, GPS/BDS/GLONASS/Galileo positioning, a 2 W speaker, a group-switching knob and Android 12.
Can the Hytera SC580 work as a radio?
Hytera states that the SC580 can work as a PoC radio through the Hytera PTToC app as an optional feature, with dual noise-cancelling microphones, in addition to its role as a body camera and remote speaker microphone (RSM).
Can the control room see where device users are?
Yes, with a compatible platform and location services enabled on the device; locations appear on the map with on-demand location requests and geofences depending on the plan. This does not replace a dedicated vehicle-tracking system.
Does the communication platform work on smartphones?
Yes, the platform is also available as a push-to-talk app for compatible smartphones, so dedicated PoC radios and supervisors’ phones can share the same talk groups, depending on the plan and configuration.
Is this linked to Afaq Platform for vehicle tracking?
No. The PoC communication platform is separate from Afaq Platform for vehicle tracking; each can be used on its own or together, depending on your needs.
How much does a PoC radio cost?
Pricing depends on the device model, quantity, accessories, the communication-platform plan, data SIMs and the subscription term. Request a quote and we will outline the right options for your team.
How does the SC580 differ from the VM780?
Hytera lists the VM780 as discontinued and recommends the SC780 as its replacement, while the SC580 is a smart body camera in Hytera’s current range. See our body-worn camera and field communications page for details.
